Description
Introduction THE TRANSITION INTO FORMAL early learning settings, such as preschool and child care, represents a significant milestone for children and families. The literature on transitions to educational settings seems to focus largely on young children's adjustment to formal schooling and pays little attention to early childhood education as a site of investigation. Current research on the transition from home to an early childhood education setting tends to focus on separation and adaptation, with parents serving as the primary informants on this experience. Further, this literature tends to examine the transition experience at the point when children begin a program--rather than as an ongoing process for children and families.
